REVOLUTION

Revolution. The word itself is so ingrained in American culture that its implications come readily to mind. An American Revolution that inspired countless movements to contest colonial powers and, once won, established what would soon prove to be one of the greatest nations on the Earth. Revolution. Change. A right to revolution that the American people are declared to hold, the right to overthrow corrupt and dysfunctional government. Revolution, the words of change that inspired a nation to grow and become the diverse and myriad tapestry it is today. Revolution, a word that is so utterly American that Bob Kraft even adopted it for the second of his patriotic New England themed professional sports franchises (MLS REVOLUTIONNN, and lets not forget the Pats).



That said, revolution is a word that is near and dear to our hearts. Revolution is what this country needs now, and that does not mean violence or turning the country (or world) on its head. What this country needs is a widescale embrace of technology, globalization, diversity, and the global community that the US is itself becoming and the US is indeed already a part of.

Young people in America know now the complexity of the world. They use technology, surf the web, travel abroad and embrace the world at an early age. They know where the world is heading and yearn to be a part of it. Yet our nation as a whole must move in this direction, or else if we hesitate and recede into social isolation our country will wither and die.

What the United States of America needs at this juncture in its history is a revolution. A widescale revolution by the youth and those Americans eager to have a place in the world again. A revolution of modernity, to embrace the modern, globalized world and not force its will failingly upon it, but rather be a part of it with its own unique identity. We need a modern cultural revolution, and we need America to once again redefine itself.
